

We also support our Masonic family youth groups: Job’s Daughters, Rainbow for Girls, and DeMolay. We also have scholarships for high school seniors to use for post secondary education. This project has assisted those studying for the ministry, missions, youth leadership, education and other related fields. Our largest worldwide project is the ESTARL Fund – Eastern Star Training Awards for Religious Leadership. Examples include: the Minnesota Masonic Homes, the Masonic Memorial Cancer Hospital at the University of Minnesota, and the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Disorders Clinic. In partnership with out Masonic brothers, members of the Eastern Star dedicate themselves to supporting a variety of local and national charities. The Order of the Eastern Star allows us opportunities to enjoy fellowship, build friendships and have fun. All members have their own reasons for joining the organization. Martha Chapter has had an active role in many parts of the city of Anoka and its community over the past 110 years. She had moved to Anoka from Missouri and wanted to have an Eastern Star Chapter she could belong to here. Harriet Woodmansee formed Martha Chapter. Because no meetings were held or business conducted their Charter was recalled. The building was destroyed in a fire some 6 years later. The first Eastern Star Chapter in Anoka was North Star Chapter #7 started on June 27, 1878. Business meetings are conducted with an open Bible on the altar and the flag of our country displayed. Our lessons of brotherly love, relief and truth are portrayed through biblical heroines in our initiation ceremony. Our symbol is the Star of Bethlehem with the five-pointed star as our accepted emblem. Our teachings are based on the Bible, however the Order of the Eastern Star is not a religion and is neither secret nor political. Members are taught an allegiance to preserve the good of their country.Martha Chapter is part of the largest fraternal organization worldwide for both women and men. Q. Is the Order patriotic and democratic? A. Yes. Q. Is there any memory work? A. There is no mandatory memory work except the means of making yourself known if you wish to visit a Chapter or if you become an officer. Q. Is the Order of the Eastern Star time consuming? A. After your Initiation into our Order, you may attend as your time permits. We only require a belief in a Supreme Being. Members of all religions may belong to the Order of the Eastern Star. Q. Is my religious faith allowed In the Order of the Eastern Star? A. Yes. Members come from all economic stations of life. Financial position is not considered in the Order. Q. Can I afford membership In the Order of the Eastern Star? A. Yes. Only members are allowed in a closed meeting. We are easily found within the community but we enjoy a distinctive means of identifying each other. Secret societies are underground and hard to find. Q. Is the Order of the Eastern Star a secret society? A. No. The Eastern Star participates in a variety of social and charitable activities. The Order of the Eastern Star is composed of Masons and women over the age of 18 that are related to Masons.
